Welcome to Riviera Rugby School

The aim of our rugby school is to offer children a way to ENJOY themselves, having FUN, DEVELOPING their skills, playing in a TEAM, and all in a SAFE and WELCOMING environment.

We offer training for kids from 4-12, and juniors from 13-18, and welcome all levels of players, from total novices, to experienced players. In addition, once the children reach the age of 7, we offer the opportunity to test themselves through tournaments and matches.

For our juniors, as they become more physically capable, the game becomes more physically demanding, and increasingly technical. Our approach to junior development reflects this shift, as we increase the number of training days per week, and extend the training season.

As teenagers, juniors have a much wider range of interests and demands on their time, and as a result, all rugby clubs see a decrease in participation levels. For most clubs in Switzerland, this means they are not able to field a full team at under 14, 16 and 18 level. Riviera is no exception, and to allow our juniors an opportunity to continue to play, we have created an entente with Haut Broye and Monthey – and our players play under the Entente des Alpes.

If you or your child has never played rugby before and wants to try, they are welcome to join at any time in the season, and we offer 3 trial training sessions with no obligation. To find out everything you need to know for your first time.

Typically runs every Saturday morning from just before Easter to the end of October for the kids, note that we do not stop for holidays. Due to the popularity of Saturday morning training, different age groups train at different times, to ensure we have sufficient space on the pitch, and enough trainers to support the children.

If you or your child has enjoyed their trial sessions and want to continue you need to pay the annual membership fee. In addition if you or your child intends to play in tournaments or matches, you need to complete some additional forms for the Swiss Rugby Federation.

Are typically organised for under 8s, 10s and 12s, bringing together players from clubs all over Switzerland. They are normally played on a Sunday and last most of the day. Some clubs do not have enough players to provide a full team, but in order to ensure every player gets the opportunity to play, organisers will on occasion combine players from several teams.

Building a friendly, sociable club is important to us. That’s why we organise 2 key annual social events to bring together children and parents. In late June, early July, we offer a barbecue for the entire family, celebrating the beginning of summer. At the end of season party, normally in late October, we celebrate the achievements of our players, and thank everyone involved in the club, with a free end of season gift for every child.

Our coaches come from all over world and every age group has both English and French speaking coaches. All our lead coaches are experienced rugby players, and have coaching certificates from either the Swiss Rugby Federation or other International rugby bodies.

As a club with over 200 children joining us for rugby every year, we are always looking for people interested in helping either with event organisation or coaching and administration. If you are interested, just contact one of the admin team at the desk every Saturday morning.
