A Typical Training Session
Arrival & Check-In
On a Saturday arrive at Grand Pré, ideally 10 minutes before, with all the equipment you need. We have a car park next to the pitch, and the Vevey – Blonay train stops at the Chateau de Blonay, only 5 meters from our pitch.
We have no changing rooms, but do have a toilet block next to the pitch. We suggest players come already in their rugby kit.
Players should check at the administration desk, so we can record their attendance we do this for safety reasons. Players can leave their kit bags/trainers next to the pitch (under the cover of gazebos when its raining). Tuesday and Thursday training’s are less formal, with each coach responsible for recording the players attendance.
Training Sessions
Our training sessions are led by qualified and experienced coaches and focus on safe and age-appropriate games that let players have fun whilst learning core rugby skills. After registering at the training session we start with a comprehensive warm-up session that gets the mind and body ready for rugby training.
Depending on what the coaches and the players want to work on, each session will feature small-sided games that encourage running, passing, tackling as well working on individual and team skills.
With younger age groups the focus is on fun and learning to do the rugby basics safely. As players move through the age groups they learn more specific rugby skills such as scrums, line-outs, and kicking plus how to work as part of the team. Our goal is to give all our players then skills they need to play at their best level and of have a life long love of rugby.
What do the parents do?
Parents are welcome to stay for the entire training session, and even join in with helping during the training sessions – holding tackle bags, or passing balls. Alternatively, coffee and cakes are always available at the club stall. If you do not stay for the entire session, please make sure that the administration desk has your contact details, in case of emergency.
